TravelPass® FAQs

TravelPass lets you use your domestic talk, text and data* in more than 185 countries outside the US for a set daily fee. You can call within the country you're visiting and you can call back to the US. The fee is:

• $5/day in Mexico and Canada
  • Keep in mind that calling, texting and data use in Mexico and Canada are included at no extra cost in these domestic plans: Start Unlimited, Play More Unlimited, Do More Unlimited, Get More Unlimited, Go Unlimited,** Beyond Unlimited,** Above Unlimited,** The new Verizon Plan shared data XL and XXL sizes.** Above Unlimited also gives you 5 TravelPasses per month.
• $10/day in other countries where TravelPass can be used.

TravelPass isn't available in non-covered countries or on cruise ships.

*High speed data applies for the first 0.5 GB/day with 2G reduced speeds thereafter. If more than 50% of your talk, text or data usage in a 60-day period is in Canada or Mexico, use of those services in those countries may be removed or limited.

You're only charged for the days that you use your device in a TravelPass country. A 24-hour TravelPass session starts automatically when you make or receive a phone call, send a text or use data.

If your device has cellular data or data roaming turned on, a TravelPass session can be started by background data, including:

• App content refreshing (e.g., Weather apps, Fitness Tracker)
• Syncing (e.g., email)
• Device or app software updates

2 hours after the session starts we send you a text letting you know when your 24-hour TravelPass session ends. Using your device after that session starts a new session.

If you travel to 2 countries within a single 24-hour session or have a layover in a different country on your way to your final destination, you're still only charged for 1 session.

You can add TravelPass to your device’s line by selecting a Travel plan on the Global & International Services page in My Verizon, or by texting the word Travel to 4004.

No, you don't need to opt in every day. Add TravelPass once and it stays on your line so you're all set for your next trip. You're only charged for the days that you use your device in a TravelPass country. There's no charge when you're in the US.

With TravelPass, you can call within the country you're visiting and you can call back to the US.

If you want to call a different country, add an international service plan to your line in My Verizon online or the My Verizon app. You're charged the international plan rate for these calls.

Wi-Fi calling isn't included with TravelPass. Wi-Fi calling to a country other than the US is charged international long distance rates regardless of whether or not you have an international service plan.

TravelPass gives you high-speed data for the first 0.5 GB/day. After that, you'll have 2G reduced speeds data. To get more high speed data:

• We'll send you a text message with an offer for an additional 0.5 GB of high speed data to use during the same 24-hour session.
  • The additional 0.5 GB data is $5 in Mexico and Canada and $10 in all other TravelPass countries.
• Reply yes to this text to get the added high speed data to use in the same 24-hour session. 

You can buy additional 0.5 GB of high speed data multiple times during a single 24-hour session.

Note: Additional high speed data sessions are not available in Cyprus, Gibraltar and Greenland.

No, you don't need to cancel TravelPass when you return to the US. TravelPass only triggers a daily charge when you use your device while traveling outside the US in a TravelPass country.

So you can leave TravelPass on your account for no charge and it will be ready to activate a new 24-hour session the next time you travel abroad.

You can receive free TravelPass days with:

• Verizon Up – Free TravelPass days are often offered as rewards you can claim through Verizon Up.
• Verizon Visa Card – You can get 2 free TravelPass days per calendar year if you apply and are approved for the Verizon Visa Card.

Note: If you have the Above Unlimited plan, you may also receive free TravelPass days.

Any free TravelPass days you get through Verizon Up and the Verizon Visa Card will be stored in your TravelPass bank in Verizon Up.

To view your TravelPass bank:

1. In the My Verizon app, tap the Menu icon in the top left corner of the screen.
2. Tap Verizon Up.
3. Tap Use Rewards.

You’ll see the number of free TravelPass days you have in the TravelPass section.

You can tap Manage to see the expiration dates of each of your TravelPass days and/or reassign them to another eligible line on your account.

Note: If you have Above Unlimited, the TravelPass days included with your plan won’t appear in the TravelPass bank.

The free TravelPass days assigned to your line will automatically be used when you have TravelPass active on your line and travel outside the US to a TravelPass country.

When you arrive at your international destination, you’ll receive a text message telling you how many free TravelPass days you have. Once all your free TravelPass days are used, the normal TravelPass daily fee will be applied.

Notes:

• Free TravelPass days aren’t eligible for use on cruise ships.
• If you have Above Unlimited with TravelPass days included, your Above Unlimited days will be used first.

Yes, the Account Owner or Account Manager can reassign TravelPass days to another eligible line on the account through the My Verizon app:

1. Go to your TravelPass bank in the My Verizon app.
2. Tap Manage.
3. Tap Reassign next to the TravelPass day you want to transfer to another line.
4. Select the eligible line you want to reassign the TravelPass day to.

The TravelPass day is now assigned to that line.

Note: Free TravelPass days you receive from your Verizon Visa Card won’t automatically be assigned. You can view them and assign them on the Use Rewards tab of the Verizon Up screen in the My Verizon app.

Free TravelPass days from your Verizon Visa Card expire at the end of the calendar year.

Verizon Up reward TravelPass days expire 6 months after you claim them. You can view the expiration date of each TravelPass day in your TravelPass Bank.
