Have questions? We’ve got answers.

We said we would lead on 5G, and we are. We were the first in the world to enable a commercial 5G mobile network with a commercially-available smartphone, the 5G moto mod. We currently provide the most 5G devices available on any 5G network. And we’re committed to continuing to offer you the latest, most advanced models as we expand our 5G footprint nationwide. View our 5G-capable smartphones

If your phone is 5G-compatible, you should see a 5G icon in the top bar of your phone when you're in an area with 5G coverage. If you’re not sure and you have an Android phone, tap on Settings >> Network & Internet >> Mobile Network >> Preferred Network type. You should see all the mobile network technologies that your phone supports such as 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G. If 5G is listed, then your phone supports it.

In order to access 5G service, you’ll need a 5G-capable phone. For 5G Ultra Wideband service--which is available only in parts of certain cities--you’ll need to be inside a 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area and use a 5G Ultra Wideband-capable device.

To access 5G Nationwide, which is available in 2,700+ cities, you’ll need a 5G Nationwide-capable device, which automatically connects when you’re in a 5G coverage area. Most devices manufactured in 2020 will require you to download a software update that adds the 5G Nationwide capability. View list of updates

As the fifth generation of wireless technology, the blistering speeds, ultra-low latency and massive capacity of 5G have incredible potential to reshape the way people live, learn, work and play. Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband, now available in 50+ cities, is the fastest 5G in the world.* That means that downloads that used to take minutes now take seconds.

In addition to ultra-fast speeds, 5G offers much lower latency than 4G—the time that passes from the moment information is sent from a device until it is used by the receiver. With these two game-changing advantages over 4G, customers on Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network can enjoy real-time experiences like multi-player gaming on the go, video chatting in HD with near-zero lag and streaming 4K movies with virtually no buffering.

Another benefit that 5G offers is increased capacity. With its unprecedented bandwidth, 5G will be able to support the billions of new devices that will be connected in the future to the Internet of Things.

Verizon 5G Nationwide uses a low-band spectrum that involves Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), which allows 5G service to run simultaneously with 4G LTE on multiple spectrum bands. With DSS, if you move outside Verizon's high-band Ultra Wideband coverage area, your 5G-enabled devices stay on 5G technology using the lower bands. By deploying both technologies together, Verizon can use its full portfolio of current spectrum resources to serve both 4G and 5G customers, maximizing your 5G experiences on the Verizon network. 5G Nationwide is available in 2,700+ cities. Learn more about 5G Nationwide availability.

The 5G Ultra Wideband network, meanwhile, uses the high-band, ultra-wide millimeter wave spectrum to deliver the best 5G experience available today. Its ultrafast speeds and reduced lag time (a.k.a. latency) can give smartphones new capabilities for multi-player gaming on the go, streaming 4K movies and video, chatting in HD and more. And with its massive bandwidth, 5G Ultra Wideband will be able to support many more devices of the future. 5G Ultra Wideband is available only in parts of select cities. Learn more about 5G Ultra Wideband availability.
